Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift. That's why they call it the present.

A Picnic in the Mountains
On Sunday it was SOOOO hot in Las Vegas that we decided to head up to Mt. Charleston for a picnic. It was 109 degrees and we couldn't wait to get out of the valley! We heard about a picnic area that is near Lee Canyon that has a small creek running through it.
As we drove up the mountain, we could feel the temperature dropping. It was very crowded up there (I guess other people had the same idea we did). It was so crowded that we weren't able to get a picnic area so we just had to pull up near a log. The dogs loved the water! In fact, at one point, Dakota layed right down in the middle of that frigid water running down the mountain.
I took Dakota up the mountain a ways - jumping on rocks and getting my shoes wet. We had to 'borrow' someone else's firepit to roast our hot dogs. We all sat on our log and munched on some fruit and hot dogs. After we ate, Bill and the girls decided to go hiking a bit further up the mountain. We were able to see a road but weren't sure where it went. I decided to stay back at the site with Dakota and read a book. After about 30 minutes, the rain came!
We had heard the thunder and saw the lightning earlier in the day and it didn't take long before it was really coming down. I had to pack up the picnic supplies and rush down the mountain with Dakota close behind. Bill and the girls made it back to the truck about 10 minutes later - after I was sufficiently wet from the rain. We loaded up the stuff and started to head back to Vegas. The rain was pouring for a while and we could hardly see the road. We looked at the temperature on the dash in the truck -a whopping 55 degrees! It had dropped 54 degrees since leaving home. We took our time getting out of the canyon and headed home - back to the heat. And would you believe ~ not a drop was coming down at home! No relief for the weary!
