California or Bust!

In August, we decided to get out the Vegas heat and head toward California.  The trip was very last minute and we just up and left!  We found a hotel in Mission Viejo.  It was right off the freeway and fairly easy to find so we were off to the beach.  We found a great spot in Long Beach and spen the afternoon relaxing in the sun.  Bill and the girls built a huge sand castle too.
We stayed at the beach until it was almost dark.  We were starving and we found a great fish taco place on the way back to the hotel.

The next day we decided to start heading north.  We had no plans so we just started driving.  We ended up at the Aquarium of the Pacific.  It had been about 10 years since we had been there so it was a great destination!
We saw so many amazing sea creatures there.  They had lots of touch tanks so we got to touch starfish, sting ray, sea slugs, and jelly fish.  We spent hours walking around and learning about all of the animals.

One of the best parts of the Aquarium, oddly enough, was the birds!!  They had an enclosed area with a special kind of parakeet.  We decided to buy the nectar to feed the birds and the minute Bill walked into the bird area, he was surrounded by them!  It was hilarious! Within seconds, he had 4 birds sitting on him.  They loved the nectar.  They had very long tongues that lapped up the nectar.
