Zion National Park

Another adventure for the Jefferson Family!

On New Year's Day we went up to Utah for the night to do some hiking and hang out with our friends, the Fretty family. We left early on New Year's Day (none of us made it 'til midnight the night before) and got up to Utah about 10:00. We were a little ahead of the Fretty's so we decided to stop off a Tai Pan to do a little shopping. Tai Pan is a home decor warehouse that some co-workers told me about. I was giddy with all of the stuff! We ended up picking up some Christmas decorations for next year that were on the year-end clearance sale. Gotta love a bargain!

After that we started heading up to Zion. We met the Frettys in Springdale and parked a car so we could all go in one vehicle into Zion National Park. David guided us to a great place with an easy hike that took us through three tunnels (two tunnels that we drove through and one that was part of our hike). The second tunnel was very long - over a mile - that went through the middle of the mountain. It was pitch dark inside except for a few lookouts along the way.

When we found our spot, we had to test out the snow. David and Tammy were the only ones with appropriate footwear for hiking in the snow. A few of us had mittens, but other than that, we were not prepared for the weather.

We found many photo opps along the way. It was so beautiful! Ice was cracking below us as we were walking along the path. A few of us slipped and landed on our backsides! The girls found icicles to suck on for a while.BFF!!!!

So strong that they can hold up a falling tree! They are amazing!

We hiked through this tunnel which went under the road. The sand in the tunnel was so fine and powder like!

Icicles were hangin everywhere. This was especially beautiful because the ice was melting and dripping behind the icicles making it look like they were moving. Mother Nature is amazing!
