Dana Point, California

The trip began with a BLAST!! We were less than 30 miles out of Vegas and one of the tires had a major BLOW OUT! I was driving at the time thinking the road was getting really bumpy. In less than a minute, there was a loud noise and we all knew what had happened. It was amazing because the entire tread had been ripped off. We had never seen anything like it. After Bill got the tire off, we realized that the tread had gotten wedged into the axle. It was crazy . . . but within about 30 minutes, we were on the road again.
After checking into the hotel, we headed out to lunch. We know of a place in Dana Point that has the best fish sandwiches in the world!! Huge chunks of fish, a couple slices of cheese, all a top of nice soft bun. They were awesome. We decided to go to the state park that is right across from our hotel. The tide was low so we could walk out onto the rocks to see the tide pools. We saw snails, clams, and tiny crab everywhere.
Bill picked up a little snail and let it slide down his hand. After leaving a nice slime trail down his palm, it got stuck and wouldn't come off. We had to tap it against a rock to get it off. I tumbled into the water to join some of its buddies.
Before dinner we rented the double surry bikes. We laughed so hard as the girls were trying to steer, pedal and break. (The scary part is that Ciara will be driving in a few years. I'll warn you so you can stay off the roads.) We road all up and down the boardwalk. We thought we saw a pod of whales and were so excited. Upon further investigation down a rocky pier, it was just a bunch of seaweed. I was so disappointed!
As we watched the sunset, we headed out to dinner. We had some yummy Mexican food at El Torino and headed back to the hotel. So much for Day 1 of the Dana Point Vacation!
